Are you downsizing? ...should you be?

WE ALL SHOULD BE...ON A REGULAR BASIS.

As we go through our lives, we tend to collect items such as furniture, hats, kids toys, knik-knaks, etc.  Then we decide that, perhaps, it's time to downsize.  We don't need all that space anymore.

As a realtor, I see so many of my clients/friends wanting to move to a smaller place to live, perhaps a condo or home with not as much yard.  Then they start opening their closets and the horror begins...where did all this "stuff " come from? I don't remember seeing that since the kids were in diapers - in 1973 !!

Trust me... for your sanity...and for your Realtors'...start downsizing your "stuff" now.  You never know when you'll need that extra space or want to sell that treasured "family" home. Take one day a month, invite the kids home, and tell them to empty out all the 'Tim's' cups, dog biscuits and golf clubs out of their cars, so they can fill them up with all their homework from grade 2, one-eyed doll and other unique items that you've been keeping for them all this time.

Ask yourself...do you really need those disco clothes, 42 bottle openers, 27 red & green santa towels, etc.?

You know, once you start, it's actually invigorating... going down memory lane, ridding yourself of unwanted junk, and finding out what kind of flooring actually does exist in all those closets. You can even make some money doing this.  Throw it all out on the front lawn one Saturday morning and see all those bargain shoppers come running to your doorstep at 5:30 a.m.

If you do this, it will be so much easier when I go to help you sell your home... and the actual move will be so much easier... AND EXTRA BONUS... your home will show that much better to prospective buyers...being neat, tidy and organized.

One last thing...once the closets and drawers are emptied... either to the dump, another family member's home, the yard sale or a 10ft x 10ft storage unit down the street...DON'T FILL THEM UP AGAIN !!

Thinking of you...and your sanity...and mine,

Trish.
